Applied Behaviour Analysis Terminology

Applied behaviour analysis

Applied Behavour analysis is the schience of understanding and changing behaviour. It uses the concepts of reinforcement and punishment to create behaviour change or teach new skills

ACCOUNTABILITY

The ability to demonstrate that methods are effective

aCCEPTANCE AND COMMITTMENT
tHERAPY

​An empirically based psychological intervention that uses acceptance, mindfulness strategies, commitment and behaviour change strategies to increase psychological flexibility

Acceptance

​ It involves the active, aware embrace or private events occasionaed by one's history without unneccesary attempts to change their frequency or from, especially when doing so risks harm.

aNTECEDENT STRATEGIES

Antecedent Strategies are environmental events that occur before a specific behaviour. They are put in place to decrease the chances of challenging/undesired behaivour and increase the chances of appropriate/desired behaviour occurring. these can be considered supports that come before the behaivour and may influence which behaviours someone engages in.

Analytic

​ The analysis of a behaviour, requires a believeable demonstration of the events that can be responsible for the occurence or non-occurence of that behaviour.

Advocacy

 Advocacy is actively supporting or speaking up for individuals, groups, or causes to promote their rights, needs and well-being while fostering positive change.

Baseline

Provides a starting point to determine what steps to take next.

BCBA

A BCBA (Board Certified Behaviour Analyst) is a graduate level, independent practioner, who can provide behaviour-analytic services. 

CEU

Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is a  way to document the completion of courses, non-credit programs and learning designated to improve or increase the knowledge of a working professional

Changing Criterion Design

An ABA method that systematically tracks behavioural porgress by setting, achieving and adjusting incremental, measurable goals, overtime.

Commited Action

A step-by-step process of acting to create a life of integrity, true to one's deepest wishes and longings.

compassionate care

This approach focuses on creating environments where individuals feel safe, happy, relaxed and engaged, therby fostering trust and facilitating meaningful learning experiences.
